Thick walls, mirrored surfaces, neighbouring networks and certain electrical devices can all affect Wi-Fi performance. Walk from router to television while checking signal quality and note where reception drops. Compare one legal streaming app on the TV and phone in the same room.

Think about household traffic

Gaming downloads, cloud backups and several simultaneous streams compete for bandwidth and Wi-Fi airtime. Schedule major downloads away from busy viewing times or consider router quality-of-service settings if your equipment supports them. A faster broadband package will not automatically solve weak local Wi-Fi.

Mesh, access points and cable options

A well-positioned wired access point or suitable mesh system may help in a long or thick-walled property. Beware inexpensive extenders that merely repeat an already weak signal. For stationary televisions, a wired run can be cheaper and simpler in the long term.
