Identify who bills you
A streaming service may bill directly, through a device app store or through an authorised partner. Find the trading name on your receipt and note the reference number. The company providing the app is not always the same business that charges for the content.
Read the renewal and cancellation rules
Check whether the plan renews automatically, how much notice you must give and whether cancellation stops access immediately or at the end of the paid term. Save written terms at the time you subscribe. Do not assume one month of access implies a cancellable monthly contract.
Ask about refunds and service changes
Understand whether a trial converts to a paid subscription and what happens if channels or features change. Refund rights depend on the facts, payment arrangement and applicable consumer law. Avoid any provider that refuses to explain its business identity or payment policies.
Use the official cancellation route
Cancel through the billing provider’s account portal or supported contact method and retain acknowledgement. Monitor the next statement for unexpected renewals. If a charge is disputed, contact the merchant and your payment provider with receipts rather than sharing card credentials in online groups.
Quick checklist
Use this short list before changing settings or contacting support:
- Find the merchant named on your receipt
- Check automatic renewal and notice periods
- Keep screenshots of agreed terms
