Confirm your devices support Cast
Many televisions support Google Cast, but not every smart TV does. Check the TV specification or look for a Chromecast or Google TV streaming device. Open an app with an official Cast button; ordinary screen sharing and the browser’s Cast option are different features.
Check both devices are on the same network
Your phone or computer and Cast receiver should normally be connected to the same home Wi-Fi network. A guest network, multiple router networks or isolation settings can block discovery even when both devices have internet access. Make a note of the exact Wi-Fi names before troubleshooting.
Restart the right equipment
Close and reopen the casting application, then restart the phone and receiving device. Update the app and operating system. If using iOS, make sure the app is allowed to access the local network. Test a second supported app to discover whether the failure is app-specific.
What to tell support
Report the TV or Cast-device model, the app name, whether the Cast icon appears at all and whether both devices use the same network. Avoid random router resets or network security changes unless you understand the effect on the other devices in your home.
Quick checklist
Use this short list before changing settings or contacting support:
- Confirm Cast support and app compatibility
- Check the exact Wi-Fi network name
- Allow local network access where needed
- Restart both devices and test another app
