Connect Apple TV to the screen
Plug Apple TV into a compatible television using HDMI, connect power and select the correct TV input. Follow on-screen setup to choose language, Wi-Fi or Ethernet and sign in with your Apple Account if required. Make sure the TV itself has picture and sound before troubleshooting any individual streaming app.
Find compatible applications
Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD have an App Store where you can search for legitimate streaming applications. Check the publisher and regional availability before downloading. Older Apple TV third-generation devices do not have the same downloadable app store. An app installation alone does not grant rights to its programmes.
Check picture quality and sound
Start with automatic video settings, then compare the picture with another known-working app. Some HDR or frame-rate problems come from HDMI compatibility or display settings rather than broadband speed. Use a suitable HDMI cable and try a different TV input when diagnosing an intermittent black screen.
Protect accounts and avoid unnecessary resets
Apply tvOS updates, install apps only through trusted channels and enable account protections. Restart Apple TV and inspect one application at a time before erasing all settings. If you contact support, provide your model and the exact error message, not your account password.
Quick checklist
Use this short list before changing settings or contacting support:
- Check HDMI and the selected TV source
- Confirm the Apple TV model
- Install apps from the official App Store
- Test playback with a known service
