Start with supported Roku channels
Search the Roku channel store for the content service you intend to use and read its compatibility information. A streaming service that works on your phone is not necessarily offered as a Roku channel. Subscriptions and content access may be managed separately by each service.
Casting is not the same as mirroring
With casting, a supported phone app tells a compatible Roku channel to start a video on the television. With screen mirroring, the television shows an image of what is on a phone or computer. Availability depends on the operating system and device model; some copyrighted video apps also restrict mirroring.
Roku’s official help pages explain casting, mirroring and Apple AirPlay separately because they do not work in exactly the same way.
How to check mirroring support
Consult Settings → System → About to identify your Roku model, then compare it with Roku’s supported-model guidance. On compatible Android or Windows devices, mirroring may appear as Cast, Smart View, Wireless Display or a similar name. Apple users should check AirPlay support instead.
Do not buy a subscription on the assumption that mirroring will always carry its live channels; check with the application provider first.
If an app is missing
A missing app normally means you should verify the service’s Roku support. An alternative official app or compatible external streaming device may be appropriate, but avoid downloading software from unknown sites or assuming unsupported workarounds will be secure.
