Choose a supported connection method
An iPhone or iPad can show video on a TV through compatible AirPlay devices, supported casting apps or a suitable wired adapter. Not every streaming application enables every output method. Check the app’s own support guidance first, especially for content protected by digital rights management.
Start with AirPlay or the app’s cast feature
Connect your phone and the target television or receiver to the same suitable local network. Open the supported app and look for an AirPlay or Cast control. Choose the destination and follow any pairing prompt. The screen-mirroring option is different from handing playback directly to the TV and may behave differently.
If the television is not listed
Verify both devices are awake and connected to the same home network, rather than a guest or isolated Wi-Fi network. Update the app and operating system and restart both devices. On iPhone, an app may require permission to find devices on the local network. Reopen the app before changing deeper router settings.
Know the common limits
A compatible adapter does not guarantee that every protected stream will output over HDMI. Supported resolutions, subtitles and audio tracks vary. If an application deliberately blocks a form of mirroring, use its official TV version or ask the rights holder about supported devices instead of looking for bypasses.
Quick checklist
Use this short list before changing settings or contacting support:
- Confirm the streaming app supports TV output
- Connect both devices to the same home Wi-Fi
- Check local-network permissions
- Test an approved clip first
